Whether someone needs prayers, food, clothes or a way to make a living, gogo Emily is ready to lend a helping hand.
Now, her selfless spirit has earned her a place among the top 10 finalists in the Daily Sun Gogo and MKhulu Competition.
She was nominated by her 20-year-old mzukulu, Maggy Mogale, who wanted to shine a light on the remarkable woman she calls her gogo.
She’s a people’s person.
According to Maggy, gogo Emily, who is a retired urology nurse, is always ready to lend a helping hand.
People call on her to help whenever there is a funeral ekasi.
She also gives people piece jobs and clothes to sell so they can make a living.
“She’s always praying for people in the community. Many people love her in Mabopane,” said Maggy.
But gogo Emily’s love is not only felt in her community.
Maggy said her gogo has taught her an important lesson about compassion.

“As people, we have to love each other and not look down on others. If you need help, you should get help from people and not be judged,” she said.
Maggy hopes her gogo wins because the entire community knows the kind of person she is.
Gogo Emily’s journey is deeply rooted in faith.
“I feel so blessed. These are the grandchildren I’ve been praying for,” she said.
She was raised by her gogo and mkhulug, who were both devoted to prayer.
Her mkhulu even held church services in their yard.
Gogo Emily later felt called to serve God, studied at a Bible college and preached in prison.
Today, she continues praying and preaching every morning.
“God has given me a job to do, morning prayers and morning preaching,” she said.
She hopes her story will inspire others to turn to God.
I’d like to say to people, get saved and accept God as your saviour. That’s what God has put in my heart, to preach the gospel of liberty.
If she wins, gogo Emily said the prize money will go towards God’s work. She plans to support Maggy, whose kid is living with a disability, to start a crèche and ministry.
For this prayer warrior, winning would not only be personal victory. It would be a blessing shared with others.
