At the centre of the show is Kelebogile, who she said challenges assumptions about men in his world.

MAGEZA is looking for a wife and he has 10 women to choose from.

A new reality dating show is set to take Mzansi by storm as Mageza Wants A Wife follows Kelebogile "Trivi K" Morake on a journey to find love.

The 26-year-old taxi driver from Soweto will spend time with the women as they compete for his heart. The Mzansi Magic show premieres on Friday, 6 May at 8pm.

Executive producer Zanele Mauka told Daily Sun that the concept was born from a simple truth about love.

"The inspiration behind Mageza Wants A Wife is simple and universal: everybody wants love. No matter your background, profession, status, or lifestyle every person wants to feel chosen, understood, and valued. In a South African context, love takes on beautifully unique forms," she said.

Zanele said while audiences have seen various dating formats before, this one aims to feel closer to home.

"We've seen different iterations of romance on screen - from farmer love stories to pastor-led journeys but we asked ourselves: what could feel more authentically, culturally South African than a Mageza's search for love? The new-age Mageza is not a stereotype. He is clean, self-aware, emotionally intelligent, and upwardly mobile," she said.

At the centre of the show is Kelebogile, who she said challenges assumptions about men in his world.

"The Mageza in this show is emotionally intelligent, self-aware, upwardly mobile, and intentional about partnership. He carries tradition, but he also embraces growth. The audience isn't just watching a love story unfold they're watching a stereotype being dismantled in real time," she said.

For Kelebogile, finding the right partner goes beyond appearance or status.

"A queen is not about status or social media presence. It's about character, emotional depth, and alignment. He's looking for a woman who is grounded, confident, self-aware, and secure enough to stand beside a strong man without feeling overshadowed.

"He wants someone nurturing but not passive. Someone ambitious but not competitive. A woman who understands that partnership is teamwork and is ready to build a legacy with him," she said.

She stated that Kelebogile is actively involved in choosing his partner.

"He's deeply involved in his search for a partner - this is his journey. However, love doesn't exist in isolation. We've included his family and close friends because they understand his values, temperament, and what kind of woman would complement him," she said.

However, the show has already faced criticism from viewers who believe dating shows prioritise drama over real love.

"The criticism is valid. From the beginning, our intention has never been to create drama - it's to create space for something real. We can't script chemistry. What we can do is create an environment where intentions are clear," she said.

"Viewers are more aware, more vocal, and quick to question authenticity. There's also the cultural complexity - love here involves families, tradition, lobola, and community expectations. It requires sensitivity."
