AFRO-POP sensation Zonke Dikana continues to captivate Mzansi with her heartfelt lyrics.
The singer-songwriter from Gqeberha, formerly known as Port Elizabeth in the Eastern Cape, shared the secret to creating timeless music with Daily Sun.
Zonke, renowned for hits like Tonight and Jikizinto, believes music transcends language.
She considers her ability to write songs that bridge linguistic gaps - one of her greatest strengths.
Zonke expressed her disbelief that a girl like her, from a dusty village road, could write music that resonates with so many people.
"I always say I can't believe a girl from the dusty streets of Port Elizabeth, with no electricity, no TV, no radio, can write songs that actually resonate with people. And I think writing from an honest place will always be more amazing to people than any flashy stuff because they can relate to you. So, to me, that's been my secret. Writing real stories, my stories they happen to relate to," she said.

The 45-year-old said seeing her music and performance celebrated in every province and outside the country means a lot.
"I mean, that's what I'm saying. I speak isiXhosa, I speak a bit of Sesotho or Setswana, and speak isiZulu, you know? And I dabble in Xitsonga, so it means a lot because it shows you that. Music is universal. You know what I mean? So, that to me is something. I feel like I have a great talent there where I can write songs that cross any language barrier, you know?"
Zonke also revealed that she's working on new music, and her fans can expect new projects from her.
"I'm working on something, maybe a little EP soon. Just a gift to the people, maybe four songs. You'll learn about it soon," she said.
