MZANSI broadcaster and cultural commentator Hulisani Ravele (37) has sparked lively conversation online after opening up about why she chooses not to celebrate Christmas or New Year's Day in the conventional way.
Her candid reflections have resonated with many, especially those who feel pressured to follow traditions that don't align with their personal beliefs.
In a social media post that quickly caught attention, Ravele made her stance clear from the outset.
"Things you don't wish me: Merry Christmas. Happy New Year on Jan 1st," she wrote, setting the tone for a message centred on individuality and spiritual freedom.
Hulisani explained that while she understands the world operates according to long-established customs, her own journey follows a different rhythm.
"I may live in a world that dictates a particular way of life or marks certain things because 'that's what we know and have always done', but my spirit moves to a different rhythm," she said.

She was quick to add that her personal choices are not meant to challenge or dismiss others.
"You don't need to dance to my beat, just let my drum play freely," she said.
The broadcaster's message struck a chord with followers, many of whom praised her courage and authenticity.
Commenting on her post, Thulani Malevu described her as "an awakened great spirit," while Gomotsegang Kwena Mojapelo wrote: "I wish sometimes I could travel through your brain and understand your way of doing and defining things, totally admirable."
Another follower, Lerato Mogaole, echoed the sentiment, and said: "Just because everyone is doing it doesn't mean I must do the same. I'm my own person with my own beliefs."
