SINGER opens up about why he creates music.
Vusi Nova describes the process as a reflection of his personal journey and a collective experience of his community.
For him, Afro-soul is more than just a genre, it's a raw, unfiltered expression of struggle, joy and identity.
The 40-year-old singer, whose real name is Vusimuzi Nongxa, sees his music as a form of healing, rooted in authenticity and culture.
The As'phelelanga hitmaker released a new song on Friday, 13 June, titled Phendula and said it is for those healing from a broken heart.
"Phendula was inspired by real heartbreak - those painful moments when love lets you down again and again. It's about turning that pain into something beautiful and healing through music," said Vusi.
He said he wants those who have been heartbroken to feel understood and validated when they listen to the song.

"Like someone finally put their heartbreak into words. Even in sadness, I hope they find comfort and strength, knowing they're not alone."
He said he was deep in his feelings during the writing process.
"I was hurt and raw, but turned pain into art. I'm now healed, stronger and proud of turning struggle into something beautiful," he said.
Vusi shared some of the things that drive him to continue making music.
"It's the sound of my story, my people's struggles and our joy. Raw, unfiltered, human, my roots and my realness. Afro-soul isn't just music - it's medicine. When fans say it mends their heart. That's the mission.
"It has the power to heal. The genre bends but never breaks and there's room to fuse tradition with tomorrow. That's freedom and that keeps me motivated," he said.
