ANC secretary-general Fikile Mbalula had to dodge angry residents in Tumahole in Parys on Tuesday, 27 June to get to the sports complex in the kasi, where he encouraged party members not to leave the party.

Mbalula's visit came after angry residents burnt party regalia, saying they have had enough of the ANC because of poor service delivery.

Community leader Sam Poli told Daily Sun that when they heard that Mbalula would be in the kasi, they waited for him so he could hear their grievances.

"Unfortunately, Mbalula used backdoors to get to the hall, where he didn't even talk about the township's problems, but spoke about people who are burning party regalia," he said.

According to Poli, their main problem is water as their taps are running dry, adding that the ANC-led municipality is not solving the water problem.

The ANC has failed the community and that has forced community members to unite in burning party regalia. They had enough of the organisation, which is not taking people's lives seriously.

Residents who came to listen to Mbalula told Daily Sun that the secretary-general didn't speak about their problems in his speech and instead, he spoke about burnt T-shirts and Ace Magashule.

They said they expected him to talk about the water challenges and plans of when the community will have drinkable water.

Addressing ANC members, Mbalula said anyone who attacked the party or service delivery should be dealt with by law enforcement as well as those who burn ANC regalia.

A few months ago, residents burnt water tankers and the mayor's home demanding the municipality to address water challenges.

The municipality started with a water pipeline project, but the project was stopped a week ago and was burnt to ashes on Monday night, 26 June, leaving the community wondering if they will ever have drinkable water.
