Balobedu throne disputes persist despite Queen Masalanabo's recognition.

TROUBLES and infighting continue to surround the Balobedu throne, even after President Cyril Ramaphosa formally recognised Queen Masalanabo Modjadji as the rightful heir.

This development follows a warning from the office of Queen Masalanabo Modjadji at the Balobedu Royal Nation in Limpopo directed towards the former king regent, Prince Mpapatla Modjadji, against intimidation, corruption, and false authority.

The chief council has pointed out that Prince Mpapatla's actions not only violate established legal frameworks but also threaten the stability of the Balobedu Nation.

"Prince Mpapatla was entrusted with the role of regent for Queen Masalanabo during her minority. However, his regency lawfully ceased when Queen Masalanabo reached the age of majority. After president Ramaphosa recognised Queen Masalanabo, all governance responsibilities were duly transferred to her, making her the legitimate leader," said Professor Mathole Motshekga, who is Balobedu Royal Nation's chief counsellor.

Motshekga further said that there are allegations of Prince Mpapatla continuing to unlawfully occupy the offices of the traditional council and carrying out unauthorised governance activities.

"Reports indicate that he has engaged in acts of intimidation against headmen within Bolobedu and has allegedly engaged in questionable financial practices regarding the appointment and removal of traditional leaders," Motshekga added.

According to the royal council, Prince Mpapatla, his brother Prince Lekukela, who is Queen Masalanabo's sibling, and their spokesman Ronnie Moroatshehla have been acting with a semblance of authority despite lacking any legitimate power.

Motshekga said that attempts to establish a kingship in what has historically been a queenship will not be tolerated.

Meanwhile, Moroatshehla, the spokesman for the Modjadji Royal Nation and Prince Modjadji, maintains that they are conducting operations as a royal council.

"No one has ever come to us to show us our king or queen. You can't run a royal throne through social media. If Princess Masalanabo wants to rule, she needs to return to the royal house. Since president Ramaphosa's recognition, we have only seen her on social media attending events," he said.
