OVER 29 people were arrested for running across the busy N17 highway in Brakpan, Ekurhuleni, ignoring all the rules and risking their lives on Thursday, 21 August.
The Ekurhuleni Metro Police's (EMPD) strong women officers led the charge in a special Women's Month operation on 21 August.
It ran from 6am to midday and targeted lawless pedestrians who cross the freeway instead of using bridges.
Speaking to Daily Sun, EMPD spokesman Thabiso Makgato explained that those who got arrested are between 23 and 59 years old.
"They were taken to the Brakpan Police Station, and they are facing charges of violation of the National Road Traffic Act. People should know that the law does not allow anyone to cross any freeway by foot," he said.

Makgato warned that crossing busy highways is dangerous.
"It's illegal to cross the highway by foot because people are dying because of this. It's not worth it and people should stop," he warned.
Cops say accidents on freeways go up when people risk life and limb dodging cars on foot. The EMPD urges everyone to use the pedestrian bridges and keep safe.
According to Arrive Alive, the number of people who end up dead because of crossing the highway has risen.
