THE issue of gangsterism in Mamelodi, Tshwane is a growing concern and goes against the values of the community.
This is according to Malaza Skhosana, an MK party member of the Provincial Legislature in Gauteng and part of the Transport and Health Portfolio Committee.
During a visit to Ward 10 in Mamelodi East on Saturday, 23 August 2025, Skhosana emphasised the MK party's commitment to addressing these challenges.
"This is part of the strategy of taking over government. We are a government in waiting, driven by the needs of the people, to establish the challenges of our people. To share with them the challenges so that we can ventilate their issues at a national level," he said.

Skhosana further criticised the government, stating that gangsterism thrives due to its failure to enforce laws and protect citizens.
"When thugs and criminals take over, the government is failing. That's why we are the government in waiting, taking the mandate from our people, enforcing laws, and ensuring citizens live in a safe environment," he added.

MK party Mamelodi chairman Kosabo Dube urged the community to work with police, highlighting that gangsterism hinders development and disrupts community projects.
"Gangsterism is disturbing development, which is a great concern. This party is giving us a fresh mandate. The current government has failed after over 30 years," he said.
Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla, also part of the visit, described what she witnessed in Mamelodi as "highly disappointing" and said the ward has been abandoned for six years.
"What I've seen here is highly disappointing after 30 years of democracy. For the past six years, this community has been left abandoned," she said.

"We must win this ward and bring dignity to the people," she said, reinforcing the party's zero-tolerance stance on gangsterism and violence.
"We call upon the government to do more and allow our favourable KZN police commissioner Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi to assist in Mamelodi.
Zuma-Sambudla added that she saw exposed transformers in ward 10.
