A TAXI operator loses his life.
This after unknown men armed with firearms opened fire in a taxi violence-related shooting at the Zonkizizwe Taxi Rank in Ekurhuleni on Tuesday, 20 May.
The men who were travelling in a Toyota Quantum allegedly opened fire at a member of the Katlehong Peoples Taxi Association (KAPTA) who was in a Zonkizizwe patrol squad car.
The rivalry bloodshed is between Zonkizizwe Taxi Association (Zota) and KAPTA, which is suspected to be a permit issuer.
The court has ordered that members of Zota to refrain from operations at Zonke Izizwe.
A member of the squad was taken to a hospital and died on arrival.
According to one of the patrollers who asked not to be named, the incident happened at about 8am.
"We heard gunshots from the gate, and people were screaming. I saw a commuter who was in a wheelchair fall on the ground. Once the gunshots had stopped, we rushed to her but luckily, she wasn't shot.

"The ongoing taxi violence has affected us and the commuters," he said.
He said the taxi violence has been happening for the past seven months.
"We wake up in the morning to guard the taxi rank and allow taxis with the Katlehong Peoples Taxi Association sticker to ferry commuters to different destinations.
"However, our lives are in danger because of this taxi war and more than 15 people were killed recently," he said.
This is a developing story.
