A FORMER DA Eastern Cape leader faces getting the boot after he accused Helen Zille of racism in a Facebook post.

The post by Nqaba Bhaga has now landed him in hot water and a suspension notice has been issued to him leader. He has 48 hours to explain why it should not be imposed.

The post read:

DA Provincial Leader Andrew Whitfield confirmed that the DA intends to suspend the former Nelson Mandela Bay mayor.

"The DA in the Eastern Cape has unanimously resolved to serve DA member Nqaba Bhanga with a notice of intention to suspend him from all party activities pending the outcome of an investigation into claims of bringing the party in disrepute, among other transgressions of the DA's standards of conduct for its members.

"The intention to suspend Nqaba Bhanga follows after he publicly labelled another DA member, Helen Zille, a "racist" and posted unfounded allegations against her on social media," said Whitefield in a statement.

He said Bhanga would have to respond in writing with reasons why he should not be suspended.

"The PEC has referred the case to the party's Federal Legal Commission (FLC) for an investigation. The DA in the Eastern Cape is deeply disappointed by Bhanga's conduct which is contrary to his previous commitment to non-racialism and the Party," Whitefield added.

In 2021, Bhanga survived a brutal DA chop after two people died in a horrific accident in Gqeberha.

The incident occurred after the Covid-19 curfew deadline and suffered injuries.

Bhanga was not available for comment as his phone has been on voicemail since Saturday, 24 June.
