GAUTENG Education has issued an update on school placement offers.

Gauteng MEC for Education, Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation, Matome Chiloane, announced that 293 057 placement offers have been issued for the 2025 Online Admissions for grade 1 and grade 8 pupils as of 7am on Thursday, 19 September.

This includes 146 385 offers for grade 1 and 146 672 for grade 812.

So far, 148 744 offers have been accepted, while 105 193 are still pending acceptance by parents.

The placement process will continue throughout the year, with offers sent out in batches.

Parents must log on to the Online Admissions website within seven days of receiving an offer to either accept the offer as final, which secures the pupil's place at the school or decline the offer.

Provisionally, accept while awaiting other offers. If a new offer is accepted, the previous one will be automatically cancelled.

If no further offers are made within seven days, the last accepted offer becomes final.

Parents can check for placement updates on the GDE website if they do not receive an SMS immediately.

No further action is required if an SMS confirms a kid's placement at a specific school. Placements are subject to space availability and priority placement criteria.

Parents may receive a transfer offer for the next closest school with available space if a school reaches capacity.

Parents should not panic if their application status is marked as "Application still being processed," as an offer will be made eventually.

Concerns about application statuses changing from "Documents Verified" to "No Documents Submitted" are due to a review process checking document authenticity, legibility, and completeness.

Applications flagged as "No Documents Submitted" will be considered during the late registration period starting on 11 December.

Parents can submit objections to offers within seven days, with outcomes provided within 14 days thereafter.

If not satisfied, they can appeal to the MEC within seven days, with resolutions provided within 14 to 21 days.

Parents can contact the GDE's Contact Centre on 0800 000 789 or via WhatsApp on 060 891 0361.

They can also visit any of the 15 district offices for support.

MEC Chiloane emphasised commitment to placing all pupils fairly and thanked parents for their patience and co-operation.
