Maria Selepe is devastated by the seven-month delay in DNA results after losing five family members in a Harrismith fire.

HEARTBROKEN mum can't take it anymore and has had enough!

Eish, what happened

The grieving mum, Maria Selepe (51), who lost five family members in a horrific truck fire in Harrismith in August 2024, said she's on the brink of suicide due to the long wait for DNA test results.

Maria has allegedly waited for seven months to bury her loved ones, including her son, Tshokolo Mofokeng (35), his wife, Anna Hlatswayo (32), and their three kids - Tumelo (10), Moleboheng (8), and Bokomoso (1).

Bodies burnt beyond recognition

Their bodies were burnt beyond recognition in the tragic incident, and the delay in receiving the DNA report has left her with unbearable pain. The uncertainty surrounding the pending DNA results has pushed Maria to a breaking point.

This is a harsh punishment, says Maria

Expressing her deep frustration and desperation, Maria said: "This is a harsh punishment. We've been waiting for the DNA report to bury our loved ones. We're in the dark. The last information we received said they struggled to find Tshokolo's DNA.

"However, they came to my husband and did some tests. I'm a human being. My heart can no longer handle further delays."

Maria threatens to take her own life

Maria said if she were to take her own life, she would hold the Mzansi government accountable for her death, blaming the prolonged delay in the DNA process for her ongoing suffering.

"If I die tomorrow, the government must be held responsible," she stated.

Amagata urge Maria to be patient

Meanwhile, police spokesman Warrant Officer Mmako Mophiring has urged the family to be patient and allow the process to unfold.

"The investigating officer will formally notify the family when the results are ready," he said.
