COPS bust suspects.

Four suspects were arrested in Cape Town after they allegedly hijacked a Toyota Corolla in Ravensmead with a replica firearm.

They allegedly hijacked the car on Friday, 9 May and the cops caught them on Sunday, 11 May.

According to the police, the suspects used a silver Ford Ranger as a getaway vehicle after the hijacking. They later stripped the stolen vehicle and began selling its parts.

Acting on a tip-off, members of the Flying Squad tracked the suspects and caught them in Parow with parts from the hijacked vehicle.

Police spokesman Captain Frederick Van Wyk praised the officers' commitment.

"Members of the Flying Squad received information of a silver Ford Ranger LDV on Sunday, which was used in the hijacking of a white Toyota Corolla in Ravensmead on Friday. The members followed up on the information and pulled over the LDV at the corner of Tygervalley and King Edward Streets in Parow.

"They searched the vehicle as well as its occupants and found a replica firearm that was used in the hijacking and car parts linked to the vehicle which was hijacked. The four suspects, aged between 18 and 43, were arrested for possession of suspected stolen property. The vehicle they used to commit the offence was seized as an exhibit," he said.

A motorist who passed by the scene said he saw the suspects being pinned to the ground.

"I just passed by and didn't know what was going on until I saw the details in our community WhatsApp group. The hijacked vehicle was already posted there on the day it happened. I'm glad the police caught them. No one is safe while criminals walk free," he said.

The suspects will appear in the Parow Magistrates Court once formally charged.
