ELPHANTS turn farmers' dreams into nightmares.

For months now, villagers who live near the Kruger National Park have watched helplessly as hungry elephants smash through fences and chow down on their crops.

The farmers said they're losing money and can't even feed their families anymore.

Sipho Takadzani (40) from Bende Mutale Village is fed up. He said the elephants destroyed everything in March 2025 and again in June 2025.

"We're starving because our whole lives depend on farming. I've lost more than R10 000 since November 2024," he said.

Ramudzuli Mbengwa said elephants invaded his farm in July 2025, destroying the maize, watermelon and brown beans he had planted to sell.

Community leader Edward Siphuga said they've asked for help with no luck.

SANParks' Ray Thakhuli said: "When people see animals on the loose they can call Limpopo Economic Development, Environment and Tourism on 015 293 8300. This is something that doesn't happen on the regular, in fact it happens when we least expect it to occur.

The safe option is to report them and not takes maters into their own hands."
