The 34-year-old nanny, Lungile Mbonambi, faces a kidnapping charge and is expected to apply for bail.

THE nanny, who allegedly stole a baby in her care, is due back in the Durban Magistrates Court on Monday, 6 October.

Lungile Mbonambi (34) faces a kidnapping charge and is expected to apply for bail.

She allegedly took a 10-month-old baby boy from his Durban CBD home on Saturday, 27 September, and travelled with it to Empangeni, northern KZN.

The kid's mum Zandile Mhlongo said when she arrived home on and found both her son and the nanny missing, she immediately contacted the nanny, as she had not been given permission to leave the house with the baby.

The case was reported at Durban Central Police Station and all relevant police units joined the investigation.

Cops arrested the 34-year-old woman in Empangeni in the early hours of Sunday, 28 September.

The baby was found unharmed and taken for a precautionary medical check-up.

Investigations revealed that the nanny told her boyfriend, Simphiwe Qwabe, the baby was theirs.

He had been transferring R2 500 monthly for the kid's needs.

The couple took the baby to the boyfriend's homestead to introduce him to the family.

During her first court appearance, the boyfriend said he was disappointed and had suspicions the baby might not be his.
