A CONCERNED mother believes that a tokoloshe has been sent to destroy her daughter.
She said her 19-year-old daughter can't study and has tried to get help but with no luck.
The grade 12 teen fears that she might fail her matric.
The 42-year-old mother from Duduza in Ekurhuleni told Daily Sun that the problem started in January 2023.
She said they were excited that her daughter was about to start her matric year.
She said the problem started when her daughter couldn't see properly whenever she tried to do her school work.
The mum took her daughter to an optometrist who found that the eyes were okay.
"I immediately knew we were now dealing with something beyond Western medication," she said.
She told Daily Sun that while they were trying to find a sangoma help them, her daughter's school books started going missing.
"My child has never had any problems at school. I've never received a call from her school before, but I recently started receiving phone calls that my daughter always sleeps during lessons," said the mum.
Last month, they consulted a sangoma who told them that someone in her family was unhappy with her daughter going to matric cause they could see that from there, she'd go to tertiary, and this didn't sit well with them.
"This thing was supposed to kill my daughter's eyesight completely, according to the sangoma," she said.
The mum said the sangoma gave her muthi to steam with, but things were okay for only a week.
"I'm always trying to be strong but breaking down inside because my daughter doesn't deserve what is happening to her," she said.
Daily Sun also spoke to the daughter, who began crying when asked how this had affected her.
"I'm scared. I want things to go back to normal," she said.
According to sangoma Meisie Motseki, this was done by a family member.
She offered to help the family for free.

"I hate people who mess with kids. I'll help and protect her from anyone who tries to mess with her life again," she said.
Daily Sun spoke to her teacher.
She said she knows her as a focused child who's never given her any problems.
"So, when her mum told me about this problem, her recent behaviour made sense to me," she said.
The teacher also organised a psychologist to help her once she's ready to talk.
