THE police in Samora Machel, Cape Town have arrested a man (36) for allegedly killing his 56-year-old girlfriend and chopping her up in pieces.

The body of Busisiwe Mthethwa was found chopped into pieces and packed into a fridge in her boyfriend, Brian Mhiripiri's house. He then allegedly left the house and went to have tlof tlof with another woman.

Samora Machel community policing forum (CPF) chairwoman, Jacky Samuels, said Brian was seen by Busisiwe's relatives selling her clothes.

They became suspicious as they had not seen her since the previous day. They reported to cops who immediately responded to the scene.

"When they arrived, they couldn't find Brian at home as he was drinking booze at a nearby shebeen. He was called home and when asked about Busisiwe's whereabouts, he claimed that he didn't know where she was," said Samuels.

Samuels said cops ordered Brian to open the house and he quickly lied that Busisiwe had gone to Blackheath. After he was questioned by relatives who were at the scene, Brian changed his statement and lied that Busisiwe had gone to the Eastern Cape.

Her family members called the Eastern Cape and were told that Busisiwe wasn't with them and that they had last heard from her two days earlier.

Resident Nomalungelo Ntlangani, who was present during the police search, said when Brian opened the door, all curtains were covered with blood.

"It looked like there was a serious fight in the house. The fridge was under heavy things including car engine parts that were placed on top of it. Cops ordered him to remove the things and when they opened the fridge, we were all shocked. Other residents ran away. The body parts, including the head and hands, were neatly tucked in a freezer," said Nomalungelo.

A neighbour believes the incident, which was discovered on Saturday, 30 December, could have happened two days earlier. She said on Thursday night, 28 December, Brian was playing music loudly for hours.

"It is probably the time he killed her and cut the body into pieces," said the neighbour.

Police spokesman Frederick van Wyk said cops had accompanied family members of the missing woman when they made the gruesome discovery.

The suspect was arrested and appeared in the Athlone Magistrates Court on Tuesday, 2 January. His case has been postponed to Tuesday, 9 January.
