SASSA bosses laid out the welcome mat for their new regional executive managers (REMs) in October with big plans to serve Mzansi better.
On 14 October 2025, the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) named the new bosses to head Limpopo, Free State, and Northern Cape.
Mmapula Pheeha, Nkele Ntlhe and Karabo Majanaga now have their hands on the wheel as brand-new REMs.
Social Development Minister Sisi Tolashe promised to fill all the senior posts that have been empty for way too long and she's making good on that word.
Sassa executive management, CEO Themba Matlou, welcomed the trio and made it clear that Sassa means business.
"Sassa is committed to excellence, using advanced technology and expert staff to deliver reliable social security services that improve lives and empower communities," said Matlou.

Matlou further emphasised that it's important for the REMs to regularly visit local offices in their respective regions and conduct oversight.
He also highlighted the importance of ethical and people-centred leadership, saying this is a catalyst to improve services.
"I want a leader who will empower and develop people, a leader who listens and adapts to situations. I want a leader who respects people. You cannot be a leader if you don't respect people," he said.
The CEO encouraged Sassa executive management to engage and support their staff.
"You don't demonstrate leadership by bullying people. We don't want a leader who doesn't engage, inspire or support their staff members otherwise the region you are leading will collapse much to the detriment of the vulnerable people that we serve," said the CEO.
Matlou also expressed his heartfelt appreciation to Sassa executive management, adding that the permanent appointment for REMs will improve organisational efficiency, service delivery and public confidence within the agency.
