ANGRY community members closed the gate of a primary school in the Vaal on Monday morning, 4 September, demanding the dismissal of the principal.

This is after their 40-year-old neighbour burnt himself and his wife in a shack on Friday, 1 September.

It's alleged that his wife was dating the school principal.

The principal allegedly dated his wife

It's alleged that the husband confronted the principal several times, telling him to stop dating his wife.

The principal allegedly threatened the husband that he would make his life miserable.

The husband's brother told the Daily Sun that he is also facing the same challenge of his wife not being faithful.

He said he asked his brother to find a place to rent together and leave their unfaithful wives alone and start a new life again, but instead, on Friday night, he was called to his brother's shack while at work.

"When I arrived, I was deeply hurt. My brother took his own life because of love," he said.

He said his brother complained that the principal often dropped his wife at the gate.

He said the day before he burnt the shack, he asked the family to forgive him for what he would do.

On the day of the incident

A 48-year-old neighbour told Daily Sun that he called the husband on Friday night as he heard a noise in the shack asking him if everything was okay.

He said the husband said everything was fine, but a few minutes later, he heard the screams from the wife calling him to rescue her from the burning shack.

"When I got out, it was already late as the blaze was too strong," said the neighbour.

Before burning the shack, the husband allegedly threw out his daughter's ID book outside. It was found not far from the shack with other documents.

Police investigations underway

Gauteng police spokeswoman Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi said cops have opened an inquest docket after two people, male and female, died when in a shack fire.

Nevhuhulwi said the victims have not been formally identified, and the cause of the fire is also unknown at this stage.
