RESIDENTS of Manenberg and Gugulethu, in the Western Cape, are reeling in shock.
A woman's body was found in a canal inside a wheelie bin, covered with some clothes, on Duinefontein Road on Thursday, 6 March.
A resident, Mark Jansen, said pupils on their way to school found the body around 7.40am.
They informed the community, who promptly called the police.
"It's shocking because the woman is young, probably in her early 20s. Her body was shoved inside the bin, with some clothes placed on top of her. The bin was then left in a canal filled with dirty water.
"As residents, we're shocked and wonder whose child she is. Is she from Manenberg or perhaps neighbouring areas like Tambo Village and Gugulethu?" said Mark.

Residents believe the murder likely occurred the previous night at a different location, and the body dumped in the area.
Mark said the victim had strangulation marks on her neck.
Police spokesman Captain Frederick van Wyk confirmed the incident and said investigation is ongoing.
"Circumstances surrounding the death of an unidentified young female, whose body was found in a wheelie bin dumped in a canal alongside Duinefontein Road, Eljieskraal, Manenberg on Thursday, 6 March 2025, are under investigation.
"Preliminary investigation indicates she was murdered at another location. The body was put in a wheelie bin, pushed along the connecting lane, and dumped in the canal along Duinefontein Road. A post-mortem will be conducted to determine cause of death. A murder case has been opened for investigation. No arrests have been made as yet," said Van Wyk.
Anyone with information regarding this murder is asked to contact Manenberg police on 021 699 9400 or Crime Stop on 0860010111.
