WITS University students have vowed to go on a hunger strike until all unregistered students are registered.
This decision followed a non-denominational prayer held at the university on Thursday, 13 February.
On that day, campus-based faith organisations united in prayer, appealing for God to influence the university's leadership towards justice in education and compassion.
On Valentine's Day, 14 February, while lovers celebrated, the students issued a statement announcing their hunger strike to register unregistered students.
They expressed concern that many students remain unregistered despite the academic year having commenced.
The students accused the university of misleading the public by claiming to support students while thousands were excluded, even those eligible for financial aid.

They claimed that many students had been unjustly denied funding.
The students have demanded immediate action from President Cyril Ramaphosa and his government to ensure registration for all unregistered students and to commit to implementing free education.
They called for the university's vice-chancellor to release necessary funds and allow the enrollment of all students.
They invited all registered and unregistered students, to join their cause, stating, "Injury to one is injury to all."
Additionally, they appealed to progressive academics and workers to support and amplify their voices.
Although they stressed that they do not seek violence or chaos, they emphasised their urgency and desperation for assistance.
