BLOEMFONTEIN Celtic name restored as supporters outline long-term vision.

Fans have confirmed that the historic name is finally back, ending years of struggle.

The diehards held a strategic plenary meeting at Dr Rantlai Molemela Stadium on Sunday, 14 December, to discuss the new club, Bloemfontein Celtic's formation and future direction.

The meeting focused on the club's vision, objectives, and organisational structures, marking an important step towards establishing the team as both competitive and community driven.

Celtic chairman Tsilo Mahatanya called the return of the name "a significant victory for the club's heritage and loyal fan base".

"We need to clarify that at this moment there's no Bloemfontein Celtic team competing in the Betway Premier League. The return of the name does not immediately mean a top-flight team is in place. It marks an important foundation for the club's future," he said.

Mahatanya stated that a long-term plan is in place to bring the team back to elite football, including talks with clubs that may be willing to sell their league status.

As part of celebrating the club's history, supporters announced a legends' soccer tournament set for March 2026, featuring former stars from Celtic, Kaizer Chiefs, Mamelodi Sundowns, and Orlando Pirates. The tournament aims to honour football legends, revive historic competitions, and unite fans across Mzansi.

Fans also emphasised their commitment to local football, saying they'd happily support three teams in Bloemfontein, including the newly formed Celtic, Siwelele FC, and Marumo Gallants.

Bloemfontein Celtic originally left the city after being sold by former chairman Max Tshabalala to KZN businesswoman Shauwn Mkhize, leaving a significant gap in the local football scene.

Supporters said the return of the name, combined with careful planning and community backing, is a major step toward seeing Celtic compete at the highest level once again.
