THE library at Matsediso Primary School in Katlehong, Ekurhuleni, is set for a facelift.

It will also get laptops and tables to help pupils do research for their projects.

This is thanks to the golfers who participated in the Phake Youth Club annual Golf Day at State Mines Country Club in Brakpan, Ekurhuleni, on Thursday, 11 September.

The club's patron, Motsamai Makume, said 48 golfers participated.

He said some golfers who didn't play donated funds towards the school project.

"We have raised about R40 000, which will be used to upgrade the library at the school.

"We will also purchase laptops and tablets to help the pupils with the readers," Motsamai said.

He said the club is giving back to the community.

"In the past three years, we bought soccer boots for the youth in Katlehong, and we also bought wheelchairs for the elderly."

He said they also have book clubs where they encourage youngsters to read.

Landemthini Mayeza, affectionately known as Son of the Soil, said uplifting youth is the key.

"It's in the spirit of playing together, giving unselfishly, and changing the lives of the children that we can rise as a winning nation.

"I loved playing in such golf events, because we all have to contribute to make a difference in our society. These children are future leaders. By helping the school to have an equipped library, we are building a future where all children have the health, education, and support they need to succeed," said Landemthini.

Mamantsa Mokhele, who took the first position in the women's section, said the event is part of giving back to the community.

"Most of my family grew up in Katlehong and attended the same school.

"To contribute to the development of the school is important because we want to see our children become better people in the future," she said.

The school principal, Matome Makgalo, thanked all the organisers and the golfers who took part in the golf day.

"I'm overwhelmed with gratitude as I accept this generous donation on behalf of Matsediso Primary School.

'Your support will go a long way in helping us build a library that will provide our students with access to quality educational resources.

"A library is more than just a collection of books. It's a gateway to knowledge and opportunities. Your contribution will help us create a space where our students can explore, learn, and grow," said Matome.
