PREMIER Soccer League (PSL) pays tribute to the late Jayden Adams.
Adams was posthumously awarded the prestigious PSL Chairman’s Award in recognition of his remarkable contribution to South African football.
The special honour capped a heartbreaking month for the football fraternity, which is still mourning the death of one of the country’s brightest young stars.
Adams passed away on 11 July, just weeks after returning from the 2026 Fifa World Cup, where he proudly represented Bafana Bafana.
His death at the age of 25 sent shockwaves across South African football, with tributes pouring in from teammates, clubs, supporters and football leaders around the world.
But Adams’ World Cup journey was about much more than football.
During the tournament, the talented midfielder suffered a devastating personal blow when his beloved gogo, Marianna Adams passed away just before South Africa’s group match against Czechia.
Instead of returning home immediately, Adams chose to stay with the national team and honour both his family and country by taking to the field.
Despite carrying unimaginable grief, he continued to wear the Bafana jersey with pride, earning admiration for his courage, professionalism and commitment during one of the most difficult moments of his life.
After South Africa’s World Cup campaign came to an end, Adams returned home to be with his family and pay his final respects to his gogo.

Tragically, only weeks later, the nation found itself saying goodbye to Adams himself.
His funeral in Stellenbosch brought together family, friends, teammates, football administrators and supporters who celebrated a life that inspired so many.
Emotional tributes described him as a humble young man who never forgot where he came from and always made time for the people around him. Coaches praised his intelligence on the field, while teammates remembered his infectious smile and quiet leadership.
Now the PSL has ensured his legacy will live on forever.
The Chairman’s Award is reserved for individuals who have made an exceptional impact on South African football.
The award recognised not only Adams’ outstanding football ability but also the courage he displayed throughout his career and the dignity with which he faced personal tragedy.
From becoming Stellenbosch FC’s first academy graduate, signing a professional contract to winning silverware, earning a move to Mamelodi Sundowns and fulfilling his dream of playing for Bafana at the Fifa World Cup, Adams’ rise was nothing short of inspirational.
His story ended far too soon, but the PSL’s recognition ensures he’ll be remembered for far more than the goals he created or the matches he played.
