He says Buthelezi’s dismissal was long overdue

CONTROVERSIAL former Ukhozi FM presenter Ngizwe Mchunu celebrates the dismissal of the Zulu monarch’s traditional prime minister, Reverend Thulasizwe Buthelezi.

Ngizwe’s long-held wish to see Buthelezi fired from the critical position has finally come true.

For months, Ngizwe, who is also the self-proclaimed Amabhinca president, has been calling on King Misuzulu to remove Buthelezi from the powerful position.

Ngizwe, who is affiliated with the ANC, accused Buthelezi of mixing the critical position of the Zulu monarch with the IFP agenda, as he’s one of the party’s leaders.

On Tuesday, 14 January, Misuzulu fired Rev Buthelezi from the position and promoted his deputy, Inkosi Phathisizwe Chiliza, as the Zulu monarch’s new traditional prime minister.

Ngizwe, who was also recognised by Misuzulu as president of Amabhinca, said the dismissal of Buthelezi was long overdue.

I want to thank the king for firing him because he always has tricks, and I can’t just keep my mouth shut while seeing him bringing disorder to the royal house. He was using his position, behaving like his powers are above the king’s,” he said.

“I want to ask KZN Premier Thami Ntuli to be brave enough and fire Thulasizwe as KZN COGTA MEC.”

The reason for Rev Buthelezi’s dismissal, revealed by King Misuzulu’s spokesman Mpiyakhe Buthelezi, was that the king was minimising pressure on Buthelezi, as he’s also the KZN MEC for cooperative governance and traditional affairs.

It’s not clear if there are other reasons behind the move, but only time will tell.

The king initially appointed Buthelezi during the Battle of Isandlwana commemoration in Nquthu, KZN, in January 2024, before dismissing him in December 2024. In a surprising turn of events, Buthelezi was reappointed to the same position in December 2024, only to be removed again shortly thereafter.

Ever since Rev Buthelezi was appointed, Ngizwe has been vocal, saying he must be fired.

Now the king has appointed Inkosi Chiliza, a proud member of the MK party, to a position that has been occupied by the IFP for seven decades.

The big question is: since members of the Zulu nation belong to different political parties, why is this critical position not held by someone who is politically unaffiliated, such as the king?

Attempts to get comment from Buthelezi were unsuccessful.
