LEGENDARY musician Dr Madala "Bafo" Kunene experienced a high point in 2023 with plenty of accolades and celebrations.
But his 2024 has turned into the worst year of his life as he has been diagnosed with prostate cancer while he's struggling financially.
The renowned musician said his seeking support for medical expenses and living costs.
Madala is meant to celebrate his 77th year on 17 April and he finds himself struggling to make ends meet.
He was discharged from St Aidan's Regional Hospital in Durban after spending 18 days in the hospital where he was diagnosed with prostate cancer.

His great achievements in 2023 include a Van Toeka AF Living Legends recognition from Sport, Art, and Culture Minister Zizi Kodwa and an honorary doctoral degree from UKZN, stand in stark contrast to his current plight.
The legendary guitarist from KwaMashu, Durban told Daily Sun that the financial strain breaks his heart.
"Doctors said they were supposed operate on me, but they feared that I might take time to heal as I'm too old. They gave me a medication that I will take for 8 months. I will check with them to see if I'm not getting better. If I'm not, they will do the operation," he said.
Madala said he's struggling financially because he is no longer getting bookings like the young musicians.
"This worst time of my life came when I had no money saved. These days as old musicians we no longer get booked. The music industry is currently dominated by the young ones. I will appreciate it if I can get help from anyone for my living expenses and medical expenses," he said.
Sport, Art, and Culture spokeswoman Litha Mpondwana told Daily Sun that the department is working on Madala's matter.
"The department has learnt about Dr Madala Kunene's situation and is to engage the family. It was just a few months ago when we were with Dr Kunene, who delivered a sterling message performance in the department's Van Toeka AF Living Legends Recognition Series to honour him," he said.
