Fashion designer Somizi Mhlongo said that he is proud of dressing big stars at this year's Metro FM Music Awards on Saturday, 25 April 2026.

Somizi says he understands why celebs stay silent on national issues but vows to keep using his voice.

SOMIZI Mhlongo has had enough.

The 53-year-old media personality has broken his silence on the impossible situation celebrities face when it comes to speaking out on national issues.

And his message is clear: you can't win.

The outspoken choreographer, actor and TV star took to social media to vent his frustration about the pressure that comes with being a public figure.

Celebs are criticised whether they speak up or remain quiet, Somizi said.

And he finally understands why some influential figures avoid public debates and trending topics altogether.

"I'm venting. I now get it why famous people and celebrities choose to keep quiet on issues affecting the country. It's safer that way because there're heartless people out there who make others feel bad even when they have good intentions," he said.

The reality is harsh. Social media reactions often discourage celebs from engaging in sensitive matters. Every action is placed under intense scrutiny.

Somizi's comments came after he shared news about Mazwi Kubheka, who was recently found alive after being reported missing.

Even sharing positive news attracted criticism from online users, the TV personality revealed.

"You speak, you're doomed. You don't speak, you're still doomed. When I posted that Mazwi had been found, some people asked why I was quiet before. People expect you to report to their homes and explain yourself," said Somizi.

He explained that although he'd shared updates about the case on other platforms earlier, he felt he had the right to post the outcome whenever he chose.

"It's my page and I can share what I want. Even if I didn't post before, it's still none of their business," he added.

Despite understanding why many celebrities stay silent, Somizi made it clear he won't completely withdraw.

He'll continue using his voice when it matters.

"I now understand why celebrities keep quiet. It's safer. But I'm not going to stop getting involved in things that need my voice. Don't cry when celebrities go quiet. They're avoiding all of that," he said.

It's a powerful message from someone who refuses to be silenced, even when the pressure becomes too much.
