"We are extremely concerned about these violent incidents."

Police are probing if the two security guards killed alongside their employer, Londie Londos's ex-lover and businessman at Sandton's Solo restaurant, were officially registered with PSIRA.

Gauteng Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant-General Tommy Mthombeni spoke to the media on Friday, 7 March, revealing this incident isn't the first of its kind involving individuals with similar backgrounds.

"We are extremely concerned about these violent incidents at liquor establishments," Mthombeni said.

"Though in this case, the shooting occurred at a restaurant, not a liquor outlet. We've learned that the individual in question was accompanied by bodyguards when, around 8 pm, an altercation broke out with the restaurant's security team.

"What started as a scuffle quickly escalated into a deadly shooting, leaving three people dead," Mthombeni said.

Mthombeni confirmed that the investigation has already led to four charges of attempted murder.

"One of the key figures is accused of starting the confrontation with his security guards," he said.

"We're digging deeper into the incident and have seized firearms from the scene."

This isn't the first time the area has seen violence tied to similar circumstances.

"We've had an earlier, similar case in Sandton, and we're still investigating," he said. "In that case, a witness refused to come forward, preventing us from making further progress."

He also shared some details about the businessman: "The person involved had a pending fraud case in Nigel, which is awaiting trial. He was out on bail and had been checking in at a police station as part of his condition."

Bandile Masuku, Chairman of the Community Safety Portfolio Committee, expressed his concerns over the rise in violence across Gauteng.

"These shootings often involve private security personnel, which means we need to seriously rethink how they are regulated and how they conduct themselves," Masuku said.

"For example, in the recent Zanzou nightclub case, reports suggested that the perpetrators, who were allegedly targeting young people, were bouncers and security guards."

Masuku believes it's time for tougher regulation.

"Yesterday's incident also involved private security protecting one of the suspects, which has raised serious concerns. We've raised this issue with PSIRA, advocating for better regulatory controls," he said.

He also pointed out the alarming sight of armed security guards patrolling with rifles.

"It's worrying to see security personnel walking around like they're ready for battle. We can't always distinguish whether they're legitimate or if they're part of a more sinister operation. This creates a climate of fear and intimidation for ordinary citizens."
