Film festival to showcase African talent!

THE Africa Rising International Film Festival (ARIFF) is back for its 7th instalment.

This year's festival will take place at the Ster-Kinekor Cinemas in Rosebank Mall and Atlas Studios in Milpark on Friday, 6 December and Saturday, 7 December.

The event will be under the theme The Next Voices of the Continent.

The ARIFFF, president Lala Tuku, said since its inception in 2018, ARIFF has established itself as a premier platform for African filmmakers and storytellers, ensuring no voice is left behind.

"The 7th Africa Rising International Film Festival is a celebration of the transformative power of cinema and its ability to amplify African voices.

"We remain committed to honouring the creativity and vision of storytellers who reflect the heart and soul of our continent while redefining the cinematic future," she said.

Lala also thanked the cinemas they will be working out.

"We are proud to continue our long-standing partnerships with the Gauteng Film Commission, Ster-Kinekor and Atlas Studios, whose invaluable support makes this festival possible. Together, we are shaping a future where African voices are celebrated and amplified on both local and global stages," she said.

Festival director Ayanda Sithebe said they've curated line-up of Pan-African and International films.

"The evolution of African cinema is nothing short of extraordinary. As we look to the future, ARIFF stands as a beacon of hope and progress, where bold voices and visionary filmmakers redefine what is possible for our continent on the global stage," she said.

There will be film screenings, ARIFF talks, a digital hub and the ARIFF Film Child Programme.

"Introducing the next generation to cinema is more than just seeing pictures on the big screen. It's about zooming in and showcasing who we are through storytelling, inspiring creativity, critical thinking, and ownership as a people.

"Programmes like the ARIFF Film Child allow for genuine representation, ensuring that these young voices have the tools to express themselves and make their mark in the world," Ayanda said.
