Donell Mbele, the son of former Generation actress Sonia Mbele, appeared in the Randburg Magistrates Court on Monday, 20 January, facing charges of rape.

The 23-year-old is accused of two counts of rape allegedly brought forward by his girlfriend. Through her representation, the victim alleged that Donell raped her twice on separate days, claiming the incidents happened on the 14th and 15th of December 2024.

During the court proceedings, it was noticed that Donell was using crutches, and he was asked what happened. He claimed that an e-hailing driver allegedly attempted to rob his phone and drove off while he was getting out of the car.

The prosecutor, Given Mbedzi, said that Donell wanted to inform the court about the police's attempt to rob his family of about R350 000 with fake dockets, and shortly after, the girlfriend filed a rape case against him.

NPA spokeswoman Phindile Mjonondwane she said that if he is found guilty, he will face the law.

"The charges arise from a complaint registered with the Sandton police by his 17-year-old girlfriend, who alleges that Mbele raped her on 14 and 15 December 2024, at his place of residence in Morningside.

Donell was granted bail of R1 000, and the case has been postponed to Monday, 10 February.
