A GIANT lizard has instilled fear in the residents of Bekkersdal, Westonaria.
This after a jogger allegedly spotted the reptile sneaking towards the fence of a house in the area.
It's said that the jogger paused and quickly alerted schoolkids to get into their taxi. A woman in pyjamas woke up in fear after seeing the lizard move on the road leading to the nearby police station.
The residents told Daily Sun the lizard kept moving fearlessly even when they screamed for help.
Resident Thabo Khoza (33) said: "We're scared of this thing because we don't know much about it. We don't know if it will come back, get into our houses or attack our kids."

He said they called the Westonaria SPCA to deal with the matter, but they never came. "They told us that we should let it go and that it'll eventually leave our area," alleged Thabo.
Another resident, Oumakie Tolo (29), said maybe weird animals wouldn't show up if people stopped dumping rubbish everywhere. "Perhaps this is a sign that we need to start taking care of our area," she said.
Jerry Selwane of the SPCA said he'll send a team to the area to attend to the matter.
Zoologist Goodwill Ngcobo said lizards are not as dangerous as people think. "In fact, there are a lot of different species of lizards, many of which are helpful toward humans. Even the largest of lizards are relatively harmless," he said.
