Bakhe is in prison awaiting trial in October for allegedly hacking his mum with an axe in May 2023.

A SON who is accused of killing his mother has blamed evil spirits for his deed.

This was revealed by the family of Bakhe Bhembe, who received a letter from him while in prison, which allegedly detailed what led to the gruesome killing of his mother.

Bakhe from Protea Glen, Soweto is in prison awaiting trial in October for allegedly hacking his muom, Busisiwe with an axe in May 2023.

His sister, Sibonginkosi told Daily Sun that her family has not spoken to or visited her brother ever since his arrest.

"He wrote a six-page letter to the family. In the letter, he denied killing our mother. He, however, said there are evil spirits in the house that are looking for blood.

"He further said I believed what people are saying about him, while I never took an initiative to talk to him or ask him what happened so that I can hear his side of the story," she said.

Sibonginkosi said her brother also asked that she visit him in prison. "I will go and see him. At the end of the day, he is my blood. Yes, it will not bring back my mother, but he remains my blood. In the midst of it all justice needs to prevail."

She said that her brother also stated that he had both parents, but his upbringing was difficult as he was sent to live with relatives while his parents were there.

"He said a lot. We will go through it as a family," she said.

Bakhe remains in police custody while awaiting his trial to start on 9 October at the Protea Magistrate Court in Soweto.
