One of the residents, Idu Manyike explained how he had to cover his wife with a blanket when the roof was collapsing to save her from further injury.

"My wife got injured when the roof collapsed. When the wind started, it didn't take 30 minutes for it to start destroying our houses. We just saw our roof being lifted by the wind and when the wind brought it down, that's when we saw that it was bad. Our house then collapsed," he said.
When Daily Sun visited the family, Idu revealed that his family of six has been sharing a one-roomed shack, which they divided into two rooms so they could have a kitchen and a bedroom.

He said that they slept over at a neighbour's house and he's now fixing their shack.
Another resident, Constance Singo said she was asleep when it started to rain.
"When I looked up into the roof, I could see the roof moving up and down. The metal roofing opened. I could see the sky. I didn't know what to do. I kept praying, Lord help me," she said.

She said she feared that the roof might collapse on her kids and injure them.
"I had the courage to go outside, pick up stones and throw them on the roof so that it might have some weight and not collapse. That's when I fell and injured my foot," she said.
