MAN appears in court for allegedly killing two women.

Maliehe Maliehi (34), a Lesotho foreign national accused of shooting two women over Savanna, briefly appeared in the Bloemfontein Magistrates Court on Tuesday, 10 February.

Maliehe was arrested along with four of his friends following the shooting of the women in Namibia Square in Bloemfontein, Free State on Sunday, 8 February.

The arrests came after community members helped the cops with their investigation, providing information that helped law enforcement locate and apprehend the suspects.

Maliehe was allegedly seen leaving a local tavern in the company of the two women who were later found dead.

The victims' bodies were found in the street shortly afterwards.

Police spokesman, Sergeant Mahlomola Kareli said Bloemspruit cops were performing routine patrols in Namibia Square when they made the gruesome discovery.

"Their closer inspection revealed that both victims are estimated to be in their late 20s. They were found with fatal gunshot wounds to the back of their heads. Emergency medical services were summoned to the scene, where both women were tragically certified dead."

"One of the victims was wearing light blue jeans with a green hoodie while the other was wearing a blue denim top with black jeans," said Mahlomola.

Karedi said the discovery follows an earlier incident on Saturday, 07 February, in the Bloemspruit area where the body of an unknown woman, approximately in her mid-30s, was found lying on the side of Meadows Road.

"She had also sustained gunshot wounds to the head. The identities of all three victims remain unknown as no identification documents were found at either scene," said Karedi.

The accused faces two counts of murder, possession of unlicenced firearm and contravention of the Immigration Act. The case was postponed to Tuesday, 17 February for formal bail application.

The National Prosecuting Authority is yet to provide an explanation why the other four suspects did not appear alongside Maliehi in court.
