PATIENTS no longer have to wait for long periods or travel to other healthcare facilities for scans and X-rays at Jubilee District Hospital.
The hospital has become the sixth healthcare facility to adopt new technology that will enable clinicians to remotely access patient information from various institutions.
The initiative aims to boost efficiency and effectiveness of the radiography workflow.
Speaking to Daily Sun, Melissa Magenuka from the Department of Health head office said the new technology will save costs.
She said the implementation plan will take less than a year to cover all 37 hospitals and 33 clinics in Gauteng.

"We started in February. So far, we've done Charlotte Maxeke, George Mukhari Hospital, Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital, Rahima Moosa Hospital, Mamelodi Hospital and now Jubilee District Hospital," Magenuka said.
Kurt Daniels, project manager from Siemens Healthineers, described the initiative as a digitalisation project for radiology.
"We're digitising X-rays and they'll will now be in the system. It's going to benefit all our patients when they have to move from a district to an academic hospital. A patient will have one file record and that's across the province," Daniels said.
He said digitisation brings about benefits in terms of improved waiting time.
Duduzile Mthethwa, the hospital's CEO, expressed excitement about launching the Picture Archive and Communication System (Pacs) in their hospital.
"We're excited to be launching the Pacs in our hospital. This is a milestone and we're pleased that it'll improve patient care and service delivery as it allows doctors to view X-rays in different wards or wherever they'll be working. It'll also improve early diagnosis and treatment." Mthethwa said.
