POLICE arrested four suspected zama zamas aged between 25 and 43 on Friday, 18 August.
The suspects were arrested for illegal mining during a sting operation at Atok in the Apel policing area, Limpopo.
According to Brigadier Selvy Mohlala, when the police arrived at the old mining shaft in Atok, they found a group of people who were engaged in illegal mining.

"When the police approached the suspects, they fled in different directions. They managed to arrest four suspects for illegal mining. They confiscated eight generators, 11 jackhammers, and one water pump," Mohlala said.
Limpopo police commissioner Lieutenant-General Thembi Hadebe commended the team for their efforts in the fight against illegal mining, which is still a challenge in the province.
The suspects will soon appear in the Sekhukhune Magistrates Court, while investigations are continuing.
