AFTER touring the world, popular dance group Via Katlehong will show off their talent at home.

They just toured France, Portugal, Netherlands and Botswana and are now back home and will perform at the Joburg Theatre in Braamfontein from 29 June to 2 July.

The group was formed in 1992 in Katlehong, Ekurhuleni. They started dancing pantsula and as the years went by, mixed it with other genres such as hip-hop and contemporary dance.

Buru Mohlabane, the manager of Via Katlehong, said this will be their first time performing their piece called Via Injabulo for the Mzansi audience.

"We are excited to finally bring our performance home to South Africa. Our previous tours on the international stage were incredibly successful and we are thrilled to share our new work with our local fans and supporters.

"Via Injabulo celebrates the spirit of community, culture, and tradition of the township of Katlehong through a unique blend of contemporary dance and South African pantsula," said Buru.

They will also be performing other pieces called Emaphakathini and Form Informs.

"With Emaphakathini, dancer Amala Dianor based his work on a process of amalgamation. That is to say, a way of pushing back the borders of moving the lines of separation to find new spaces, new ‘in-betweens' to be explored.

"With Form Informs, another dancer, Marco da Silva Ferreira worked on reforming the metaphor of the body as an anthropological object carrying in it the memory of the past. These bodies for him are forms expressing rebellion and the figure of the anti-hero," he said.

Buru promised a fun-filled show.

"The dancers of Via Katlehong are on a whirlwind escapade, especially with Via Injabulo. We will offer festival goers some top-notch hip-hop entertainment. We promise that it will be just as spectacular with a dynamic showcase of music, dance, and storytelling. It's the highlight of the cultural calendar," he said.
