Theo reveals that they miss the kwaito element that Tebza had.

"WE'RE missing out from him because he brought in the kwaito element into the group."

Those were the words of the Afro-pop singer and songwriter Theo Kgosinkwe on the late group member, Tebogo "Tebza" Madingoane.

It's been nearly two decades since the tragic death of Tebza, a beloved member of the award-winning afro-pop group Mafikizolo.

Despite the years, Tebza's presence is still deeply felt within the group, especially for the unique Kwaito element he brought to their music.

Theo (51) shared with Daily Sun about the void left by Tebza and the decision to preserve his legacy.

"We're missing that kwaito element, that pantsula vibe he added to the group. He was always the most excited before we performed stretching in the corner like someone about to play a soccer match. That's how passionate he was about music. We've decided not to replace him, so his name and contributions can live on forever," said Theo.

Mafikizolo was formed in the mid 1990s and has navigated almost three decades in the music industry by constantly reinventing themselves.

From cassettes to CDs and now in the digital era, the group has consistently evolved while staying true to its roots.

"The success of Mafikizolo lies in our ability to innovate and sustain the brand. We've embraced different genres over the years, including the current dominance of amapiano, and we continue to connect with audiences through our music, performances, and presentation," Theo said.

He highlighted the group's dedication to excellence in every aspect of their craft.

"Our stage performances, how we engage with the crowd, our choreography, and even our wardrobe, everything is carefully thought out. We take our business very seriously. Even if we don't release a new album, our catalogue of classic hits ensures we remain relevant," said Theo.

He also spoke about Mafikizolo's transition into the digital music landscape.

"When we started, cassettes were the thing, then came CDs. Now, it's all about digital platforms. We had to adapt to this shift, ensuring that our music, new and old, remains accessible for streaming and downloads.

"We're bringing our old music back to life, making it available for people to stream alongside our latest tracks," added Theo.
