LEGAL battle breaks out between award-winning recording superstar Sho Madjozi and her former agent, Black Major.

This is over millions of rands she received from her international record label.

Black Major has accused the Limpopo star of failing to pay it its share of over R5 million she allegedly received from international record label Epic Recordings following her retirement from the music industry in 2024.

The dispute came to light after Black Major filed a lawsuit in the Joburg High Court in December 2025, after the John Cena hitmaker, born Maya Christinah Xichavo Wegerif, allegedly ignored the agency's letter of demand for payment.

In court papers seen by Daily Sun, Black Major said that it rendered artist management services to Sho Madjozi between July 2021 and February 2025.

These services included arranging live tours and performances, brand deals, as well as recording and publishing agreements.

In rendering these services, the agency said it made some payments on her behalf.

According to the papers, the parties' agreement terminated in February 2025 after Sho Madjozi announced that she was hanging up her microphone to pursue other interests.

Black Major further said that after Sho Madjozi terminated her contract with Epic Recordings, the record label paid her an advance of US$250 000 (about R5m). In terms of their agreement, the agency claims it's entitled to 20% of that amount.

The agency also claimed that it's entitled to a further 20% of Sho Madjozi's gross revenue from all other activities and income generated through her involvement in the music and entertainment industry.

Black Major further alleged that it incurred unpaid disbursements on Sho Madjozi's behalf relating to the South African Music Performance Rights Association (Samro).

The agency also claimed that Sho Madjozi still owes it R12 000 from a R100 000 commission for services rendered on her behalf to Wasserman Music, Ubisoft Royalties and Eclipse Communications.

In addition, Black Major alleged that Sho Madjozi owes it money for costs incurred relating to certain tours, the production of a documentary, brand disbursement costs, book-related disbursements, and expenses linked to her popular songs Ndi Rine and Kadigong.

According to the court papers, Black Major demanded payment of all outstanding amounts in a letter dated 28 February 2025.

The agency claimed Sho Madjozi acknowledged her indebtedness in an email dated 31 July 2024 but has since failed to make payment despite repeated demands.

Black Major has requested that the matter be referred to mediation for possible resolution before it's heard by the court.

When contacted for comment, Sho Madjozi asked Daily Sun to explain what the story was about. After the explanation was provided, she failed to comment further.
