SCANDAL! STAR: 'Acting is my daily bread'

Marjorie Langa said she was advised by her former colleagues to give acting a try.

“We don't get paid enough, and we are not recognised as professionals in what we do.”

THE bubbly Marjorie Langa never thought she would be a TV star one day.

That's because the actress, best known for playing Gloria on the popular e.tv show Scandal!, worked as a medical technologist before becoming an actress.

"I worked for six years, and I liked working in smaller labs. It was private and intimate, and then the small labs closed. It became sort of like a factory, and the personal feeling I liked about it was lost," she said.

Marjorie said that the work was getting boring.

"One thing for sure is that you have to focus on the lab, and I had an issue of talking a lot and my bosses had a problem with that because I was always making other people laugh and disturbing them at the same time," Majorie said.

She said that one night she was working with colleagues who advised her to start acting.

"I laughed at them, and they said I was brilliant. It was so farfetched. The next day when I was talking to my neighbour, I told her what my colleagues had said to me, and my neighbour said it was a great idea," she said.

The actress said that when she went to her first audition, she was just curious.

"I never thought much about it, and I never thought I had a passion for it because I didn't know what it entailed. One thing is for sure, I loved watching movies, and the industry fascinated me. I loved being an audience and I didn't know it was because of a passion," she said.

Marjorie said that acting is her daily bread.

"I cannot survive without doing this. I always tell people that there are other things I do besides acting to earn an income. I always tell them that even if I were a millionaire, I would still be working," she said.

Although acting is the love of her life, she still faces challenges in the industry.

"We don't get paid enough, and we are not recognised as professionals in what we do," she said.
