Berita is making a comeback to the music scene.

The singer said she was aware that people had been wondering where she had been.

AWARD-WINNING singer Berita is picking herself up after a rough two years.

The Thandolwethu hitmaker spoke to Daily Sun about her return to the music scene after taking a step back.

She went through a separation and moved back to Zimbabwe. Now she's back in Mzansi and going back to school.

Berita (32), whose real name is Gugulethu Khumalo, is studying for an advanced diploma in general management at GIBS Business School.

"I had always known that I wanted to go back to school, but I didn't know when I'd do it. I already had a diploma. So, I decided to take the leap this year. I wanted to learn how to run my business better. That's when I found out about GIBS. They have an executive education school that is flexible, and I thought now is the time to further my education," she said.

Berita said she's only been studying for two months but she's learned a lot.

Musicians and artists are becoming entrepreneurs. If you want to survive in this landscape, you have to think like an entrepreneur. I started this course two months ago, but I am already facing my team in the office. I'm performing as a leader and as a businessman and not just as an artist. I still have the artist in me, but I have advanced.

"I think I'm expanding my opportunities for my own business and to support women in the industry and open myself up to opportunities in the industry in general," she said.

As part of her comeback, she'll also host a show at King's Kraal in Bryanston, north of Joburg.

"Echoes of The Soil, A Night With Berita. This is a show I've been wanting to do for a long time. This show will showcase all my talent. The first part will be very intimate, just me and my guitar. Then we'll take a break and when we come back, we'll perform with a band again. It will be like a festival," she said.

The singer said she was aware that people had been wondering where she had been.

"I called the show Echoes of The Soil, A Night With Berita because I really wanted to create a space where I can be soulful and be myself. I can show people what's in my heart. I feel like over the last two years I have been a little withdrawn and people haven't really heard my voice. I want them to know that my voice is still there and is stronger than ever.

"I'm still the Berita. As much as I've been quiet, I've been taking time to grow. I'm also starting a clothing brand that will be available at the show. We'll be launching a website for it in May. The plan now is to customize my brand," Berita said.
