PatricKxxLee said collaborations are important.

ZAMBIAN rapper Madalisto "PatricKxxLee" Mvunga has shown the importance of collaborating with other African top rappers.

He has done this through his collaboration with Sjava and Blxckie to compete with amapiano, which is currently dominating.

The 22-year-old rapper, now based in Joburg in Mzansi, also collaborated with a Nigerian rising star Nicholas "PsychoYP" Ihau-Maduenyi and others on his new 14-track album Room 37.

PatricKxxLee said collaborations are important.

"Every artist on the tape will talk about love or other sentimental experiences very differently from how I would talk about the same thing because we all have unique perspectives.

"Collaborations open the gates to a wider connection. The same way relationships are about communication," he said.

PatricKxxLee said communicating from various perspectives on the same song gives listeners an understanding that people are different.

PatricKxxLee, also known as "The King of Rage", said he hopes that this album will shift the narrative people have of him being solely a dark or emo artist.

"I have so many different sides to me and love all forms of music. With this tape, I'm coming out of the box that the music I've been putting out so far put me on.

"I want my fanbase to understand that I will be exploring many different soundscapes going forward," he said.

PatricKxxLee said his album comes at a time when hip-hop has taken a backseat in Mzansi as amapiano dominates the music space.

He said he wanted to bring established and up-and-coming hip-hop artists together.

"Sjava pulling up and orchestrating Last Call was super dope. There were a lot of rollercoaster moments during the production of this tape.

"I cried the day before I made 4R, and that's the intro of the project.

"The last song, Gravity, I did in fact record last for the project," he said.

PatricKxxLee added that he had a strong connection with number 37 as it is his universe.
