It's like a dead dog has been dumped there.

BUSINESS has been booming for street traders who make and sell iskopo near an Ekurhuleni school.

No one at the school had a problem until the bones from the cow head invaded their classrooms.

Teachers and pupils are now complaining about a big smell coming from these bones.

Save us from this smell

The teachers, parents and pupils at Lekamoso Primary School in Etwatwa claim piles and piles of bones were thrown on the sport grounds opposite their school.

They said the smell was unbearable, and they wanted something to be done about it.

"The smell is unbearable, making it hard for pupils to cope," said resident William Mngomezulu.

And as it gets warmer, the parents said they were worried that the smell was going to get worse.

Some community members said they tried to discourage littering, but it still continued.

Claims of jealousy

"When you tell people that what they are doing is wrong, it now starts to sound like you're jealous and don't wish them to prosper.

"These bones smell bad. It's like a dead dog has been dumped there. We, as residents, also can't cope with the smell," said a resident living nearby the grounds which have now been turned into a dumping site.

The man said the municipality collected plastics and other rubbish but allegedly ignored the bones.

"The skop vendors must collect these bones and take them to the main dumping sites. They are making a profit moes," said an affected resident.

"We understand that we are living in difficult times, but being unhygienic is uncalled for."

A skop vendor said she and other vendors threw the bones on the sport grounds, hoping the Ekurhuleni Municipality will collect them.

"We sometimes put them in plastic bags but dogs tear them. We don't have anywhere to take these bones," she said.

Zweli Dlamini, spokesman for Ekurhuleni Municipality, advised resident to report the matter to the local customer care centre.

Why do you think people continue to litter and illegally dump things when they are continuously told not to?
