Her body was discovered inside a Toyota Avanza on Tuesday night, 12 August.

CAPE TOWN police have launched an investigation into a murder incident.

A woman was found dead with a gunshot wound to her head.

Her body was discovered inside a Toyota Avanza on Tuesday night, 12 August.

According to community sources, the vehicle had been hijacked earlier near Crossroads before being dumped a short distance away.

Residents say they are unsure whether the woman was already dead when the hijackers took the car or if she was shot during the attack.

"It seems the vehicle, used for staff transport, was hijacked near Crossroads and later dumped not far from where it was taken. As residents, we're unsure whether the woman was shot by the hijackers or if she was already in the vehicle," said a community member, who wished to remain anonymous.

Another resident told Daily Sun they were the ones who informed the police.

"The woman was in the backseat, bleeding. We suspect she may have been shot during the hijacking. The driver escaped, so we don't know what happened. But the killing of women, especially during Women's Month, is uncalled for," said the resident.

Western Cape police spokesman Sergeant Wesley Twigg confirmed the murder investigation.

"Nyanga police registered a murder case for investigation after the body of an adult female was found inside a Toyota Avanza on Klipfontein Road, Old Crossroads, on Tuesday evening, 12 August 2025. The victim was declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel. According to reports, the victim was found inside the vehicle with a gunshot wound to the head. Circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation," said Twigg.

Police have called on the public for assistance.
