The traditional healer, whose real name is Bhongolwethu Mzozo from Verulam, north of Durban, was among several celebrities who contested the 2026 local government elections on Wednesday, 4 November.
Running on an MK Party ticket, he clinched the councillor seat and helped his party snatch the ward from the ANC for the first time in the area’s history.
But his shock victory sparked whispers that the famous inyanga, known for his strong muthi and black magic remedies, used supernatural powers to secure his win.
Not muthi, but leadership
An angry Dr Khehlelezi dismissed the allegations, saying his victory had nothing to do with muthi.
“It’s not about muthi. It’s about loving people and committing yourself to serve them,” he said.

He credited his leadership skills and strong backbone as the real reasons behind his triumph.
“Ward 60 is now under the MK Party, not the ANC. Yes, we had some issues when our own comrades supported the ANC because they wanted positions. But we didn’t argue with them.
“In politics, if you don’t have leadership skills, you’ll never lead and you’ll never win. Firstly, you must be disciplined so that you can discipline others. If you’re not disciplined, people won’t listen to you,” he said.
Nomkelemane loses bid
Meanwhile, another celebrity who contested ward 3 in Nkandla Municipality, Nomkelemane Langa, was not as fortunate.
The TV presenter, musician, poet, praise singer and author lost his bid but thanked supporters who backed his campaign.
