The foundation, which makes a difference to people living with disabilities, took to the streets of Tshwane to teach people how to interact with and treat those with special needs.
Founder Lebogang Molobi (36), who started the foundation in 2021, was thrilled with the community’s response.
“The reception is positive. They feel respected and not undermined. People stopped and asked questions, which shows that they want to learn,” she said.
“The purpose of the march is to educate and make awareness to the community that kids with disabilities have the same rights as anyone,” she said.
She reiterated this core message, adding: “However, people with disabilities have the same rights as anyone,” she said.
The march also highlighted the ongoing struggles faced by parents in the area, particularly the lack of a local special needs school.
Anna Molekwa (33) from Kekana Gardens relies on the foundation for help with her 13-year-old son.
“I have benefited a lot from the foundation, firstly is emotional support of understanding my kid and how to give him proper love and care,” she said.
“My son is suffering from epilepsy and autism. He is disabled. The challenge was founding a relevant school, especially around Hammanskraal. Schools that are good for him are in Pretoria, which becomes a challenge financially and in transportation,” she said.
