Now, former Ukhozi FM presenter Sbu Buthelezi, from Nquthu in KZN, is working to rebuild his life.
Sbu said his biggest goal is to help himself and others live debt-free.
Through his online radio station, Crown Radio Pro, Sbu said he invites business experts to teach people how to live peacefully without drowning in debt.
“One of the biggest issues in Mzansi is mental health. Many people struggle with depression because of financial problems.
“So, on Crown Radio Pro, we invite relevant people to give us tips on how to get rid of debt and live a debt-free life,” said Sbu.

In 2022, Sbu lost his job at the SABC after Ukhozi FM listeners and business owners said he took their money.
They claimed he promised to double their cash if they invested in his poultry business.
After he was fired, Sbu was reportedly chased by Isikebhe, a group that fights stock theft in KZN villages.
When Isikebhe members found him, they allegedly beat him up.
Sbu said life was hard after he lost his job.
“I don’t wish to revisit my past. It was a painful experience.
“By God’s grace, I’m rebuilding my life. I know how it feels to have people saying you owe them money.
“The poultry business collapsed after Covid-19. Many businesses collapsed because of the pandemic. When it collapsed, everything became a mess,” he said.
Sbu works with former Ukhozi FM DJ Lucky Nkosi, who is now at Izwi LoMzansi, to promote APLGO health supplements.
“I grab every financial opportunity, no matter how little it is, as long as it’s legit,” added Sbu.
